Rome wasn't built in a day...

It's VBS time again. This years theme is Paul and the underground church.

Last night we decorated two rooms, Paul's house while he was under "house arrest", this box is to become his floor, and "the underground church".

Sad :(

I think we lost my favorite camera last week. It was our gift to T. Bear for confirmation. We gave P. Bear one last father's Day but I don't like it as much. Plus it's not charged and I missed taking tons of great pictures yesterday.

So I'll have to tell the story picture less. Yesterday we saw "Land of the Lost"- Me, T. Bear, B. Bear, K., S., and G. Nothing is more fun than a car load of kids talking and rockin' out to the radio.

After the movie we came back to our house and they swam. After that, they decided they were hungry and wanted to cook.....blog moment......camera....cameraaaa.....

Each one was in the kitchen making something different. G-chocolate cake. K-piggy's in a blanket. S-bacon. B. Bear-scrambled eggs. Me-BBQ chicken quesadillas . T.Bear watching and playing his DS. When it was all finished, everyone sat at the table prayed and ate. Great Friday night family dinner!

Barbecue Chicken Quesadillas

2 Tablespoons melted butter
6 flour tortillas
shredded cheddar cheese (or whatever cheese you like)
diced red onion (can use green onion in it's place)
leftover slow cooker barbecue chicken or your own bbq chicken

Brush one side of the tortilla with melted butter. Place butter side down in frying pan. Sprinkle the entire tortilla with a light layer of cheddar cheese and sprinkle on some red onion. Cook over medium heat until under side is browned and crisp and cheese is melted. Top half the tortilla with warmed BBQ chicken and fold tortilla in half, then cut in half so you have two triangles.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Chicken

4-6 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves (I used 4 large breast that were partially frozen)
1 (18 oz.) bottle of barbecue sauce
1/2 cup prepared Italian salad dressing
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Place chicken in crock pot. I a bowl mix 2/3 of the bottle of barbecue sauce, Italian Salad dressing, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over chicken. Cover and cook for 3 to 4 hours on high or 6 to 8 hours on low. (I cook on low) Remove chicken from crock pot. Pour juices from crock pot into a large bowl. Shred chicken and place back in crock pot. Add remaining 1/3 of bottle barbecue sauce to chicken an d mix. Then add some of the liquid removed from the crock pot to make the chicken the wetness that you like it. Makes at least 8 sandwiches

Junior High Mission Trip Summer 2009

So we went on our first mission trip last week....the whole family. We caravaned 4 hours north to a sweet church outside Forth Worth.

Our mission for the week was to repair homes were residents need some extra help. Our church had 4 teams each lead by an adult.

Papa and T. Bear were on the same team, this was their house "before"

Did he mow the WHOLE yard?

Sneezy was on the team too!

and so was our sweet friend "G"

The finished product.

My job along with Snow and 2 other ladies was to cook for the camp of a 150 kids/adults. The menu was set- we just had a buy everything and cook it. Snow took lots of great pictures of our purchases, look for her to post soon too. We learned it's about $2500 to feed a group that size for a week.

Every night we had great Praise and Worship- Our group is the one swaying. B.Bear is in the blue.

This is were the guys slept.

Everyday the kids got to come back to and awesome youth facility.

We're No Hilton

I have a theory about business travelers: It's that they have an unrealistic view of how a home runs. I say this because I witnessed it first hand 2 years ago at a very nice Homewood suite in Fairfax, Virginia.

Business travelers were greeted each day with "good morning" by bright and smiling employees. They had a complimentary breakfast bar that I could never live up to. Employees scurried around making sure everyone's experience was perfect. I actually saw a guy saying goodbye to an employee and overheard him saying that he "was trying to come back next week"!

While the business traveler was at work their room is cleaned, clothes pressed and bed turned down.

I say all of this because for the past 2 1/2 years Papa Bear has done alot of traveling and been in alot of hotels. At his last hotel- he left his clothes, came home on the weekends and when he returned Sunday nights half of the time his clothes were already in his room.

Today is a turning point for him, he started a new job that requires ALOT less being away from home.

He will not each morning be greeted with a warm breakfast and a smile.

He will not have his room cleaned daily.

He will not daily have his clothes cleaned and pressed and his closet will look like this:

Because I am not a PAID employee! I am a desperate housewife and the bellboys are 2 teenage uninterested in anything "clean" or cheerful.

Say a prayer for all of us- it's going to be an adjustment!

Lazer Tag with the Girl Scouts

A few years ago a group of boys on our street started "crashing" the girl scout end of the year party. They thought they were so funny jumping the fence, running around like maniacs and just being crazy in general.

This year the girls took matters into their own hands and decided to "invite" them to play lazer tag.

These two kind, sweet ladies agreed to chaporone, tolerate, feed and control the chaos of 20plus kids. Thank You!

Thanks Girl Scouts for inviting the boys, I hope we can return the favor! They has a GREAT time!

Confessions of a CopyCat

I scour magazines and now blogs for decorating ideas. And when I find ones I like, I copy them...after all isn't that the sincerest form of flattery?

Raspberry Shortbread Cookies

1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 cups flour
Raspberry jam

Cream butter and sugar together. Add vanilla and salt mix well. Stir in flour. Shape in to round ball- I use a big spoon to measure. Press down the middle of each ball. In the center put a dollop of your favorite jam. Bake 350 for 12 minutes.

Enjoy!

About a Boy

who loves to play the tuba....

He had his "All-Star" band concert tonight. All year they practice with only their instrument. Tonight is the first time that everybody plays together.

Mr. H thinks he does a pretty good job playing the tuba.

Know how we know? He gave baby bear a band certificate at the 6Th grade recognition ceremony. Thanks for being a "great" band teacher Mr. H.!

Kamanawanaplaya

"Come-on-I-want-to play-ya" or 6th grade field day on steroids or an epic tale of 2 hours, heat, water, oatmeal, cooking oil, fruit, a dunk tank, 200 kids, 20plus events-6 minutes at each and fun, fun, fun!!!! Grab some sunscreen and a bottle of water. By the time this post is over YOU might be dehydrated, have a sunburn and need a nap from being in the sun for so long! I'm just sayin'.

Mr. H. and his group.

1st stop the dunk tank!

then the oatmeal

too much oatmeal fun and a mom letting them know it! Really?

Miss D. playing in a cooler of water.

over,under,over,under.........

Darn those oily tries

Dry swimming?

Watermelon... anyone, anyone?? Side note, this lovely lady picked sneezy, baby bear and hers SLW esquire up from the movies at oh, about 7pm. It's almost 11:30, I guess he's spending the night?? Thanks Miss W.!!

What a difference a year makes- check out these picture of what they were up to a year ago.

Guess they didn't get the memo on having "too much" oatmeal fun.

Snow, in the middle, had the posh job of being the "gatekeeper"

I think she took her job alittle too seriously. OK Snow, well done, you did a good job! You can let them go now.

<

How come when asked to perform, they NEVER do?! If you have an upcoming 6th grader I HIGHLY recomend the job of timekeeper. Last year I did it with a pro (there are only 2 postions) and it was the first thing I signed up for at orientation. You can follow your child, if he/she will let you, and blow an air horn every 6 minutes. About half way through with all the excitement and heat I ran for cover. Don't you wish you were here?
